BPS District Mathematics Standards Book

K-8 Grade Levels

Grade 03

3rd grade logoThe 3rd grade math BPS-prioritized standards were selected to build upon your child math foundation and introduces exciting new concepts!

Your child will solidify their place value understanding by rounding whole numbers with ease. They'll become computation champions, adding and subtracting within 1000 using various strategies and algorithms. Fractions take center stage as they explore them on number lines and compare them confidently.
Multiplication and division become a multiplication table party! They'll master basic facts using mental math and memorize multiplication and division facts up to 5x5 and 10s.  Word problems won't stand a chance! Your child will conquer two-step problems involving addition, subtraction, and even division within 1000, using letters as unknowns in equations.
The world of geometry expands as they identify different lines, angles, and explore relationships like perpendicular and parallel lines. Measurement becomes more precise with rulers marked in eighths of an inch. Telling time to the nearest minute and measuring time intervals in minutes will be a snap.  They'll even solve elapsed time problems beyond whole and half hours using different strategies.
But math goes beyond shapes and time! Your child will delve deeper into the concept of area, understanding it not just visually but also by multiplying side lengths.  Data analysis skills will flourish as they learn to solve one and two-step problems by interpreting information from graphs.
This comprehensive 3rd grade math program will equip your child with the problem-solving skills and critical thinking necessary to excel in future math adventures!
