BPS District Mathematics Standards Book

K-8 Grade Levels

Grade 04

4th grade logoThe 4th grade math BPS-prioritized standards were selected as a launchpad for exciting new mathematical concepts!

Your child will become a number comparison whiz, tackling numbers in the millions place and decimals to the hundredths place, using symbols to show which is bigger, smaller, or equal.
Adding and subtracting won't hold them back! They'll master multi-digit whole number problems, reaching up to the millions place using various strategies.  Multiplication takes center stage as they conquer problems with up to four-digit numbers.  Division joins the party as they learn to find quotients and remainders using place value strategies.
Fractions become more complex as they explore equivalent fractions and compare them, even when the denominators (the bottom numbers) are different.  Word problems involving fractions with unlike denominators won't be a challenge  –  your child will solve them with confidence!
Get ready for some serious problem-solving adventures!  They'll tackle multi-step word problems involving all four operations, including those with remainders.  They'll learn to represent these problems using equations, feeling like true mathematicians!
The world of geometry expands as they classify shapes based on their properties.  Measurement becomes a breeze as they convert between customary and metric units to solve real-world problems.  They'll explore the area and perimeter of more complex shapes, like connected rectangles.
Finally, data analysis skills will be on display as they use graphs and diagrams to represent and solve word problems involving whole numbers, fractions, and even decimals.
This comprehensive 4th grade math program will equip your child with the problem-solving and critical thinking skills they need to excel in future math endeavors!
