Creative Sewing (FCS131)

CREATIVE SEWING (FCS131)

This class introduces students to fashion, fabrics, and pattern usage. They will use safe sewing machine skills to construct at least three items, from decorations for the home to clothing items.

Standard 10:Textiles and Apparel

Demonstrate knowledge and basic skills needed to make informed consumer decisions regarding textiles and apparel

Topic 10.1: Evaluate fiber and textile materials.

  • FCS-10.1.1 Identify and compare manufactured and natural fibers.

Topic 10.2: Demonstrate skills needed to produce, alter, or repair textiles products and apparel.

  • FCS-10.2.1 Identify equipment, tools, and supplies and their purpose in apparel and textile construction. 
  • FCS-10.2.2 Utilize appropriate equipment for apparel and textile construction. 
  • FCS-10.2.3 Explain construction terminology.

Topic 10.3: Demonstrate apparel and textiles design skills.

  • FCS-10.3.1 Recognize elements and principles of design (e.g. balance, color, texture, etc.)

Topic 10.5: Examine historical, cultural, and social influences on textiles and apparel.

  • FCS-10.5.2 Recognize historical, cultural, and social influences on current textiles and apparel trends.
