Learning objectives & resources for: Classification of matter
In this chapter, students will be learning the basics of chemistry by:
1) Correctly classifying types of matter, using terms such as substance, mixture (both homogeneous and heterogeneous), compounds, and elements.
2) Listing the similarities and differences between 3 states of matter.
3) Exploring and explaining the chemical and physical properties of various states of matter, mixtures and substances.
4) Discussing the differences between chemical and physical changes
5) Discussing phases in terms of homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures.
6) Separating various mixtures using physical properties
7) Discussing mutiple ways a mixture may be separated using physical properties.
8) Communicating a knowledge of the difference between a chemical formula and a chemical reaction.
9) Performing some basic calculations using the law of conservation of mass.
