Learning objectives & resources for: Mole calculations, % composition, empirical and molecular formulae
In this unit, students will be able to:
1) Provide an accurate definition for the mole.
2) Use the mole conversion to determine the number of representative particles in a sample, along with the number of atoms present in a compound.
3) Apply the proper terminology for determining the number of representative particles of a substance (atom, molecule, formula unit).
4) Determine the mass of a compound when given the number of moles of that compound and vice versa.
5) Determine the density of a substance when provided with information regarding number of moles and volume using the density formula.
6) Determine the volume of a substance (at STP) when given its mass, the number of particles present, or the number of moles and vice versa.
7) Determine the empirical and/or molecular formula of a substance when provided key information.
