Learning objectives & resources for: Acids and Bases
In this unit, students will be able to:
1) Provide fundamental properties of acids and bases.
2) Explain the essential differences between an acid and a base in terms of H+ ion and OH- ion concentrations.
3) Predict if an anhydrous compound will be acidic or basic.
4) Calculate the pH, pOH, [H+], and [OH-] given one aspect of the four.
5) Explain the pH and pOH scale and what resulting numbers indicate. The Crash Course Chemistry video on this is here.
6) Provide several different examples of common products that exhibit various pH properties.
7) Calculate concentrations and amounts necessary for neutralization reactions. (#H ions X M acid X Vol acid = #OH ions X M base X Vol base)
