As we venture into uncharted waters of mandated school closure, we recognize uncertainties linger. As always, Bismarck Public School’s primary concern is for the health, safety and well-being of our students, families and community. We believe that it is imperative that these needs are met first in order for students to continue to grow academically. The strength of BPS secondary education lies in strong relationships between schools and the communities they serve and teachers and the students that they serve. Although we might be socially distanced, it is our goal that we remain a connected community of learners.

Teachers are working to establish clear communication around lesson plans, resources and activities that will allow all our students to continue to learn in the event of an extended school closure. This distance learning plan will begin the week of 3/30.

During the week of 3/23 -3/27, we encourage your child to be active, read, write, and practice math each day. Teachers are working to establish clear communication around lesson plans, resources and activities that will allow all our students to continue to learn in the event of an extended school closure. Additionally, students who receive special education services are also familiar with the website resources listed in this document. Please consider your child’s instructional level when using these resources. Your child’s instructional level may be different than their grade level. If you do not have access to a computer, please follow the suggested non digital options in this email. Special education case managers will be calling you on Monday to discuss specific, individualized programming needs for your child. Phone calls may come up as restricted so please answer those calls as you are able. Together, we will meet your child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals. This distance learning plan will begin the week of 3/30.

During the week of 3/23-3/27, it is our recommendation that students take the opportunity to complete any currently outstanding Quarter 3 work. We encourage students to work to the best of their ability and put forth a good-faith effort to engage with this opportunity as being “up-to-date” will be foundational to moving forward into a distance learning model.

During the week of 3/23 -3/27, it is our recommendation that students take the opportunity to to complete any currently outstanding Quarter 3 work. Teachers may also reach out to students with some review work to support and reinforce the learning that has already happened. We encourage students to work to the best of their ability and put forth a good-faith effort to engage with this opportunity as being “up-to-date” will be foundational to moving forward into a distance learning model. Additionally, during the week of 3/23, special education teachers will be reaching out to families of students on IEPs to start discussing the delivery of special education services in the event of distance learning. Phone calls may come up as restricted so please answer those calls as you are able.

We will continue to communicate as this situation develops. Our capacity in distance learning will grow together as we design systems and procedures that meet the needs of all our learners. Thank you for your patience, perseverance, and cooperation as we work to ensure that we are able to deliver high-quality academic experiences for your students through a distance learning model.
