Romeo is the son and heir of Montague and Lady Montague. He is a teenager in love, first with Rosalind, whom we never meet, because he forgets her when he sees Juliet for the first time. Romeo is good friends with Benvolio, Mercutio and Friar Lawrence. He and Juliet marry secretly because their families are involved in an ancient feud, and would not approve of this alliance. Romeo is reluctant to fight Juliet’s cousin Tybalt, but kills him after Tybalt kills Mercutio. Romeo is banished from Verona.
