Framework (AP) Academic Preparedness 

AVI-07.AP.03: Collaboration is teamwork with shared responsibility, sharing of ideas, information and opinions, and formal and informal discussion. Students who collaborate work together toward a common goal, develop positive interdependence, work in focused study groups, and support the learning of others through inquiry.

Sub-Standards:

(a) Hold self and peers accountable for following group norms about shared responsibility
(b) Summarize points of agreement and disagreement from varying perspectives
(c) Deepen relational capacity with classmates through effective conflict management
(d) Establish norms and expectations around respectful interactions among group members
(e) Ask clarifying questions to group members to facilitate understanding
(f) Utilize technology to collaborate with classmates and community members
(g) Distinguish between effective and ineffective language during interactions
(h) Refine usage of nonverbal communication when speaking, including body language and eye contact
(i) Demonstrate active listening skills during academic conversations
(j) Utilize academic vocabulary when communicating
(k) Speak effectively before small groups of peers

Students who collaborate can:

  • Create a safe and supportive physical and philosophical environment
  • Work through identified structures and roles to achieve a common goal
  • Develop positive interdependence
  • Clearly communicate verbally and non-verbally
  • Listen effectively to decipher meaning

Framework (AP) Academic Preparedness 

AVI-07.AP.05: Reading is strategically gaining meaning, understanding and knowledge from print and other media, purpose-driven, and interactive. Students who read understand text structures, apply prior knowledge and make connections to other text, self and world, made predictions and ask questions, and create visual images as they read.

Sub-Standards:

(a) Assess whether a text is appropriate according to the reading purpose
(b) Make predictions about the text using text features
(c) Assess relevant prior knowledge and identify gaps
(d) Utilize tools to deepen understanding of vocabulary
(e) Mark the text to accomplish the reading purpose through the lens of a content expert
(f) Extend beyond the text by evaluating and synthesizing key learning

Students who read can:

  • Activate, engage, and extend beyond the text
  • Make predictions and create visual images as they read
  • Understand text structures
  • Question the text and engage in deep inquiry
  • Become content experts
