radical (FIX)

the math symbol (FIX) , used to denote the process of taking a root of a quantity

radical equation

an equation that contains a variable within a radical term

radical expression (ADD)

a quantity that contains a term with a radical, as in (ADD)

radicand

the number under the radical symbol

raised to a power

a way of describing the exponent in exponential notation. We can say the base is "raised to the power" of the exponent.  For example we read x5 as “x raised to the 5th power.”

unable to be predicted with certainty

the set of all possible outputs of a function

rate

a mathematical way of relating two quantities, which usually are measured in different units

rate of change

the constant in a proportional function equation; it describes the ratio or proportional relationship of the independent and dependent variables—also called the constant of variation or the constant of proportionality

rational equation

an equation that contains one or more rational expressions
