BPS District Mathematics Standards Book
K-8 Grade Levels
Grade 02
The 2nd grade math BPS-prioritized standards were selected to equip your child to embark on a journey to become a true math master!
They'll conquer even bigger numbers, counting forward and backward up to 1000, and learn to write them in different ways – standard form (like 234), word form (two hundred thirty-four), and even expanded form (200 + 30 + 4).
Comparing numbers will become second nature as they use symbols to show if a number is bigger, smaller, or the same, considering not just ones and tens, but hundreds too!
Adding and subtracting will reach new heights - they'll learn special strategies using place value to make calculations a breeze. Fractions will also join the party! Your child will learn how to divide circles and rectangles
into equal parts, understanding concepts like halves, thirds, and fourths.
Problem-solving adventures continue with one- and two-step word problems involving addition and subtraction within 100, even when there are unknowns! Shapes will come alive as they learn to build figures with specific features and
explore measurement with different units, understanding how the size of the unit affects the measurement itself.
Telling time becomes even more precise as they learn to read analog and digital clocks to the nearest five minutes, including understanding a.m. and p.m. Real-world math takes center stage as they tackle money problems,
using their counting skills with coins (quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies) to solve problems up to one dollar. Finally, your child will develop data analysis skills, learning to interpret information from graphs and solve comparison
problems.
This exciting 2nd grade math program will equip your child with the confidence and skills they need to excel in future math endeavors!
