K-8 Grade Levels

Grade 05

5th grade logoThe 5th grade math BPS-prioritized standards were selected to take your child's mathematical understanding to a whole new level!

Decimals will become second nature as they learn to read, write, and round them to any place value with ease.  Multiplication and division of whole numbers become a breeze with flexible strategies, and decimals join the party too!  Your child will conquer addition, subtraction, and multiplication of decimals to the hundredths place using creative models and a strong understanding of place value.
Fractions won't be forgotten! They'll explore equivalent forms, making them fraction masters.  Word problems become even more challenging and rewarding as they solve them involving fractions and mixed numbers with unlike denominators.  Visual models and equations will be their secret weapons for conquering addition, subtraction, and even multiplication of these complex fractions.
Problem-solving skills reach new heights as they automatically multiply and divide up to 12x12.  The order of operations becomes their superpower, allowing them to solve and evaluate expressions with confidence.  Numbers will be classified as prime or composite, and they'll delve deeper into the world of factors and multiples.
The world around them transforms into a coordinate plane!  Your child will explore graphing points using ordered pairs to solve real-world problems.  Measurement conversions become a snap as they navigate between different units in both customary and metric systems, tackling multi-step word problems with ease.  Finding the area and perimeter of rectangles, even those with fractional side lengths, will be a familiar feat.
Finally, data analysis skills will flourish as they learn to represent information from tables and line plots using graphs and diagrams.  They'll use this newfound skill to analyze and solve word problems involving whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, making them true math detectives!
This exciting 5th grade math program will equip your child with the problem-solving and critical thinking skills they need to conquer future math adventures!
