No Tech Required

Soft Data (influences instruction)
Summary:

Having students underline, circle, and highlight a piece of text as they are reading.  The teacher can also set the expectation of having the students summarize or pose a question about each section of the literature on a post-it note.

Summary:

A form of graphic organizer which allows learners to perceive relationships through diagramming key words representing concepts.  This would be more of a knowledge-level assessment if the students are asked to fill in missing parts on a map, but can be elevated to the application-level if the teacher asks the students to make them map for themselves.

Summary:

The students are asked to reflect on the events of the day/topic/unit, and to write their reflections/summaries into a journal.

Inside-Outside Circles

No Tech Required

Soft Data (influences instruction)
Summary:

The students come up with their own test question(s) and are grouped into two circles, one circle inside of the other.  The students pair up by facing each other and then quiz their partner with the question(s) they have created.  The teacher has the outside circle rotate so that new pairs are formed and the questioning can happen again with a new partner.

I Have, Who Has
Criteria:

No Tech Required

Soft Data (influences instruction)
Summary:

A vocabulary word is written on one side of an index card, and the definition for a different vocabulary word is written on the other side.  This pattern is repeated for each vocabulary word so that the cards "chain" together.  There should be enough cards for each student, and some students may have two cards depending on class sizes.

The activity begins with one student saying the definition on their card, a different student in the room has that word written on their card so they say it out loud and then reads the next definition that is written on their card.  This continues until each definition/word "chains" around the room, and you know you have done it correctly if the final vocabulary word is on the card of the student who started the entire process.

Computer Automated Results
No Tech Required

Soft Data (influences instruction)
Summary:

A type of assessment that is given to the students prior to delivering any lessons over that content.  A way for the teacher to identify what prior learning has occurred with that topic, and what some common misunderstandings may be.

Quiz Games

Soft Data (influences instruction)
Summary:

Gamified quizzes that are generally used for review activities.  They can be planned in many different ways, but some of the more common ones are Jeopardy, Trivia Pursuit, Kahoot, and Quizizz.  Students can compete as individuals or in teams depending on how the teacher plans the activity.

*NOTE* online quiz games are only FGA compliant if the student does not need to create an account, give out their real name, aren't downloading an app to a device, no personally identifiable information is collected by the service, and you are following the terms of service for that application.
