Learning objectives, case studies & resources for: Brain & nervous system
In this unit, students will be able to:
1) Identify specific structures of the brain based on description of their functions. For a listing of basic brain structures and their functions, click here. For a diagram of the sagittal section of the brain (used in class), click here. Practice from the U of M website is here.
2) List specific functions of the brain based on their name.
3) Identify structures/regions of the brain from a diagram and give the functions of those structures/regions.
4) Differentiate between the types of specialties the right and left hemispheres of the brain handle.
5) Discuss multiple disorders of the brain, including the name of the disorder, how the disorder was contracted, symptoms of the disorder, and possible treatments for the disorder.
6) Discuss the similarities and differences between the ANS, CNS, and PNS. Crash Course Anatomy videos on the ANS is here, the CNS is here, and the PNS is here.

7) Discuss and provide examples for the different types of reflexes.
8) Discuss spinal nerve conduction in terms of afferent and efferent nerves.
