Student Moodle Update - Semester Transition 13-14 (S1 to S2)

At the end of the semester there is process to switch the courses from 13-14 S1 to be inactive for students and move the 13-14 S2 courses to the top level for teachers to start using. In preparation of this process to access the 13-14 S2 courses, the teacher’s individual courses have to be migrated to another category (folder) which can be archived after the end of the term. This process serves three purposes:

  • First, it helps with the organization of courses, so that past courses can be hidden from students. This helps the student when second semester starts. The students do not have to navigate through all their past courses.
  • Next, even though the class is hidden, the teacher and non-editing teacher still have access. The advantage is the course is still available for the teacher to view past learning activities if grades or assignments are questioned. Plus once a teacher has imported the master course content into their next term Individual Teacher course, they have the opportunity then to integrate content that may not be in the master course from past courses into their next term course.
  • Finally, the synchronization of the external tables between PowerSchool and Student Moodle always create the teacher’s individual courses in the same category (Folder). Therefore the current courses have to be migrated to make space for the new future courses.

So keep on teaching and learning because you and your student will not see any changes in Student Moodle except for the addition of 13-14 S2 courses….
