SCI-05.PS1.04 Conduct an investigation to determine whether the mixing of two or more
substances results in new substances.
Clarification Statement: Examples of mixtures, not new substances, could be mixing of salt or sugar and water. Examples of new
substances include making gelatin, chocolate milk, cookies, and cakes. Disciplinary Core Ideas When two or more different substances are
mixed, a new substance with different
properties may be formed.
