SCI-HS.ESS3.03 Analyze the relationships among management of natural resources, the sustainability of human populations, and biodiversity through the use of a computational simulation.
Clarification Statement:Earth Science/Environmental Science: Examples of factors that affect the management of
natural resources include costs of resource extraction, processing, and waste management,
per-capita consumption, and the development of new technologies. Examples of factors
that affect human sustainability include agricultural efficiency, levels of conservation, and
urban planning. Disciplinary Core Ideas ESS3.A: Natural Resources
-All forms of energy production and other resource extraction
have associated economic, social, environmental, and
geopolitical costs and risks as well as benefits. New
technologies and social regulations can change the balance of
these factors.
