Framework (AP) Academic Preparedness 

AVI-07.AP.01: Writing is a learning tool, a personal and public communication tool, and serves as a record of thinking. Students who write consider audience and purpose, engage in various writing processes to address specific situations, support their thinking, and demonstrate understanding.

Sub-Standards:

(a) Develop writing skills related to descriptive and expository modes of writing
(b) Generate multiple ideas that support, explain, or enhance the writing topic or theme
(c) Compose first drafts using ideas and information gathered during pre-writing
(d) Analyze a writing task to determine the purpose, format/style, and audience
(e) Write multiple drafts with increasing depth based on feedback and observations
(f) Analyze and edit sentence structure to create interest and complexity
(g) Publish writing to entire class, such as an oral presentation
(h) Take notes with an emphasis on recording main ideas and important information
(i) Take notes with an emphasis on condensing information by using abbreviations/symbols/paraphrasing
(j) Summarize by pulling together the most important information and personal connections related to the objective and/or Essential Question

Students who write can:

  • Engage frequently, in every content area and classroom
  • Cite evidence to support their thinking
  • Deepen their understanding of content
  • Demonstrate command of academic vocabulary
  • Communicate as a content expert
  • Communicate their thinking competently and confidently
