2. Practice Test

A practice MAP Primary test is available to students.  It takes less than 10 minutes for the student to complete the test, which will provide instructions and practice with the different type of questions they will see on MAP Primary.

This practice test is available on any district computer used for MAP testing:
1. Log onto the student computer with a username=map and a password=map
2. Open the student testing application.
3. Once the login screen appear, note the two puzzle pieces located in the bottom right of the logon screen.
4. Click on the "A" puzzle piece for the MAP Primary tutorial.

4. Primary Instructional Data (DesCartes)

The Primary Grades Instructional Resources (Des Cartes) is available through the teacher logon portal for MAP.  To access Instructional Resources:

  1. Log into the MAP Test site using your teacher logon/password.
  2. Click on the View Reports & Instructional Resources link in the left margin to expand the menu.
  3. Select Instructional Resources from the expanded menu.
  4. In the center of the page there will be a set of resources listed under the Primary Grade Instructional Data.

5. Proctoring

Log Sheets can be downloaded from the chapter link in the right margin.

Training/Tutorials

There are two short online tutorials available for proctors to familiarize themselves with or review the proctoring process.  The tutorials can be found on the web-MAP report site:

1.  Log into the web-MAP reporting site.

2.  On the main (Home) page, locate the section labelled Online Training, and click the link for Essential Preparation for using MAP.

3.  A new window will open.  Click on the drop down icon on the Testing label.

  • The Proctor Quick Start video (6 min) will explain the overall process of how testing works and how to create a test session.
  • The Proctor Tools video (11 min) gives further instructions for pausing, suspending, and terminating test sessions.
  • The Proctor Tips and Troublshooting sheet is a pdf document that can be printed and used for reference while testing.

5.1. Log Sheets

The intent of log sheets is to assist the teacher in tracking which tests students have completed.

Primary Screener Log Sheet (can be used as practice test for first time test takers in grades K and 1)

6. Norms

MAP Primary norms are now included as part of the regular MAP norming data

7. Accessing test results

Student test data can be accessed via the web-MAP Reports site, and in Viewpoint.

If you don't know or forget your username and password for the web-MAP reports site, go to the logon pagee and click the link for Forgot User Name/Password.  The system will send you your username and a temporary password within ten minutes, and you can use that info to log into the system and establish a new password.

Users can log into Viewpoint using their regular district username and password.

8. Other Primary Assessments

MAP Primary had two additional assessments that can be used with early grade learners (Pre-K to early K)  and students with special needs.  These assessments are:

  • diagnostic (measure student attainment of specific early skills)
  • non-adaptive
  • can be used as pre-test and post-test
  • can be used multiple times
  • can be made available at any time during the school year
  • take 10 minutes or less to complete
  • computer based

The two types of additional assessments are:

  • Screener - for early or pre-K.  Assess foundational reading and math skills.

  • Skills Checklists - 10 reading and 28 math assessments that measure student proficiency of a specific early learning skill.
