Standard:  MUS-MS.1.01 Sing accurately and with good breath control throughout their singing ranges, alone and in groups

Score 4.0

In addition to Score 3.0, in-depth inferences and applications that go beyond what was taught, such as:

  •   tone is consistently focused, clear, and centered throughout the range of the voice.
  •   properly breathing and supporting the tone to the end of every phrase.*

*Example of correct breathing:  keeping shoulders relaxed when inhaling; chest does not rise with inhalation of breath

 

3.5 In addition to score 3.0 performance, in-depth inferences and applications with partial success.

Score 3.0

The student’s:

  •   tone is focused, clear and centered through the normal singing range.
  •   breathing is correct, but occasionally does not support the tone to the end of each phrase.*

 

 

2.5 No major errors or omissions regarding 2.0 content and partial knowledge of the 3.0 content. 

Score 2.0

The student’s:

  •   tone is often focused, clear and centered, but sometimes the tone is uncontrolled in the normal singing range.
  •   breathing is sometimes correct and only occasionally supports the tone to the end of each phrase.*

 

 

1.5 Partial knowledge of the 2.0 content, but major errors or omissions regarding the 3.0 content

Score 1.0

The student’s:

  •   tone is often not focused, clear or centered regardless of the range, significantly detracting from the overall performance.
  •   breathing is incorrect and never supports the tone to the end of each phrase.*
 

 

0.5 With help, a partial understanding of the 2.0 content, but not the 3.0 content.
